Hurricane Gomez in Pensacola

Could it be there is a ravine carved out in the Gulf of Mexico that begs hurricanes to come this way?

What are the chances Hurricane Gomez will hit Pensacola?  Pretty slim.

I think we’ve had our fair share of hurricanes here in the west Florida panhandle for quite some time.  But then again, hurricanes seem to have a mind of their own.

Whatever the case, be ready.  It’s obvious by the looks of the gas station lines that Pensacola residents aren’t taking the risk of hurricane Gomez lightly.  My favorite gas station was out of gas yesterday.  Everyone was lining up with their gas tanks to get ready for the BIG storm.

Of course, if Gomez did hit Pensacola it would be devistating.  We remember all too well how it felt to get hit by Ivan.  Heck, when Hurricane Dennis hit us the next year we were like, “Huh?  Was that it?”  It was a powerful storm, but it was small.  Because the winds with Ivan went one for 8 hours, Ivan did quite a bit of wind damage.  Dennis about the same wind speeds, but the winds only lasted for a few hours.

So let’s hope for the best.  Hurricane Gomez, go out in the Atlantic and die.
